Bella Vogelsang is a Milwaukee-based artist and student at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Their practice draws from their experiences working across the sex industry,
including as a full-service sex worker independently and at legal brothels in Nevada, a dominatrix, sugar baby, cam girl, and a performer in pornography. These experiences inform their developing exploration of transactional relationships, sensuality, intimacy, and personal history.
Working across painting and film photography, Bella is building a body of work that examines the intersections of labor, desire, memory, and lived experience. Their practice is informed by a love of Americana and kitsch, with a particular fascination with themed motels, abandoned buildings, and the stories embedded in overlooked places. They frequently embark on multi-month road trips, living out of their car and staying in cheap motels. These travels, alongside their interest in cars, analog photography, and spending time with their horse, Peanut, inform an ongoing exploration of place, nostalgia, and the fleeting encounters that shape personal narratives.
